American salesman Travis Victor Alexander (July 28, 1977 – June 4, 2008) was killed in his Mesa, Arizona, home while taking a shower by his ex-girlfriend Jodi Ann Arias (born July 9, 1980). On May 8, 2013, Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder. On April 13, 2015, he was given a life sentence without the chance of release. Alexander had one gunshot wound to the forehead, a slit in his throat, and 27 stab wounds overall. Despite Arias's claim in court that she killed him in self-defense, the jury found her guilty of first-degree murder. Arias was given a life sentence without the possibility of release during the sentencing phase because the jury could not agree on the death penalty.
