Rambo Rocky Wei Nam Kam was found guilty of the brutal double homicide of a Vancouver couple in 2017 and was given a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. It was decided in a Vancouver courtroom. Dianna Mah-Jones, a well-liked occupational therapist at GF Strong, and her husband Richard Jones, a retired man who needed a walker, were killed in September 2017; Kam was found guilty of their first-degree slayings in June. Kam admitted during the trial that he broke into the Marpole home of the couple and killed them there using a hatchet and a knife. The 27-year-old further stated that he had no reason to attack the couple because he didn't know them. Kam was seen buying a hatchet and other items in security footage from a Canadian Tire that was played in court two weeks prior to the killings. The Crown had requested that Kam serve his sentence consecutively, which would have required him to serve 50 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole. Defense requested the mandatory life sentence of 25 years before being eligible for parole, though. Glen Orris, Kam's attorney, previously stated that he had no doubt the double murder was a heinous crime. However, he noted that 50 years without parole would prevent Kam from even applying until he was 75 years old, meaning Kam has no chance of rehabilitating himself while incarcerated.
